Instructions for NoodleTools

Background
NoodleTools and NoodleBib take you through the step-by-step process of citing your sources by creating individual MLA citations online. NoodleTools allows students to set up their own account and save citations into full Works Cited pages. You will be able to use your account to create Works Cited for any class and any project. This service will make it easier for you to understand and master the MLA format.
There are three options for formats: MLA Advanced, MLA Starter, and APA Advanced. Bishop Dunne students will use the MLA Advanced format (currently set as the default) which is recommended for schools and follows the MLA Handbook, 6th edition. The Bibliography component is the main part of the service that you will be using, but some teachers may also require the Notecards component for the larger research papers.
How to setup your account.
1. Click on the link next to LOGIN to NoodleTools (see above).
2. Each student must create a “personal folder” (i.e., select a personal ID and password) by clicking the “Create a Personal ID” button on the login screen. A student who enters NoodleTools remotely (i.e., not on the BD campus) will be prompted to log in to the school/library account when he/she clicks “Create a Personal ID” on the login screen. If you plan to do this, please contact Ms. Johnson (or your teacher) for the remote username and password. If you are on campus, you can bypass that step completely and directly create an account. (In other words, it is a lot easier!)
3. Choose the same personal ID and password that you use for logging into school computers or logging into Edline….something easy and memorable!
4. Once you have done this, you are good to go! You can use your account for all of your classes.
How to use NoodleTools
1. Click on “Create a New List.”
2. Type in a description title for your Works Cited page.
3. Begin entering the citations for the sources you have used. Select a citation type based on the type of source you have used and then enter the required information. NoodleTools will walk you through the entire process. Read everything carefully.
4. At the end, you can select which sources you wish to include on your Works Cited page.
5. When you are finished, you can preview and then print your Works Cited page. NoodleTools will then export the document as an rtf (rich-text format file) to your computer. If you are using INTERNET EXPLORER, your PC may block the download. To bypass this, simply click right click on the bar that appears at the top of the page and select DOWNLOAD FILE.
6. It will ask you if you wish to SAVE or OPEN it. Click on OPEN.
7. Your Works Cited page will then open and appear to look like a WORD document. You can either cut and paste this into your paper, which is probably the easiest thing to do, or you can save it. If you choose to save it, click on SAVE AS from the FILE menu and when the save box appears, change it from an rtf file to a Word file (doc) and then save it on your hard drive.
8. You should then have a wonderful Works Cited page in perfect MLA format!
