You can read more about the fight for civil rights movement in the trilogy March by Congressman John Lewis. These graphic memoirs and many other books are available here in the library. Lewis began his career as a civil rights activist with boycotts and lunch counter sit-ins. He marched with Martin Luther King and others. He was elected to the U.S. House of Representatives to represent the 5th District of the state of Georgia in 1977, and he served in that position until he died, aged 80, in July 2020.

The library recognizes the contributions of African Americans to our country with displays throughout the month. Read more about the history of this month’s celebration here and here.
